Ancestry posts nearly 100 new German Databases

Oddity of Recent Databases Widget Visitors to my website Wednesday afternoon may have been the first to see that Ancestry has posted 90+ new German databases.

They also got to see an "oddity" of my Recent Databases widget. When a database is not in English, instead of presenting the title as the link to the database, the widget shows something like "(in German)". The illustration to the right shows one English database and two German databases. My story is that I wanted it to work that way, and I'm sticking to it. But I digress.

I think the databases are city directories. Take a look for yourself.

P.S. Interesting Observation (or Not)

This will bore most of you. To create this blog entry, I cut and pasted the titles, above, from Ancestry's list of recent databases. I had to do a little formatting of the HTML and I made an interesting observation. The links for a lot of these titles were almost identical, sometimes incrementing the number at the end of the address by one, sometimes skipping a value and sometimes mixing up the sequence. That's all. I told you it would be boring to most of you.

  1. Thank you for that last "boring" tidbit. I in fact was wondering how you compiled the list.

One question: I can't figure out how to navigate to a similar list of directories for other countries. When I click on the general heading of Directories, I can search all Directories housed by Ancestr.com, or I can search one specific Directory (AKA title) at a time. How can I search all Polish directories, for example?
